If you are looking for a light that can fully flower a 5 x 5 tent and produce great dense buds then this is the light for you. The spider farmer sf-4000 is one of the best lights out on the market and can replace a 1000w hps setup. It is equipped with samsung leds and diodes these are not just any leds! These samsung diodes produce the full spectrum of light so you never need to worry about the type of light your plants are receiving.

When using HPS/CMH you need to make sure you are using the right bulbs for the vegetative or flower cycle depending if you are running 18 on/6 off for veg or 12/12 for flowering stage. This can really start to cost a lot of money because the bulbs are not cheap and cost 100 bucks each and only last for about a year before they need to be replaced.

The main benefits of the led grow lights is that they only need to be replaced at the end of their life cycle which is about 5 – 10 years depending on use and environment.

Spider Farmer SF-4000 Hanging Heights

You need to make sure that the light is always hung at the correct distance of you will notice lack of light or to much light. Thankfully the spider farmer sf4000 is completely flat in design so it is very easy to adjust and see the light spread. The light comes with 2 adjustable rope hangers which are ideal for hanging the light inside any grow tent on the market.

  • Seedling stage hang the light 30 – 32 inches above adjust dimmer as needed, some people hang lower and set the dimmer to 30% – 50%
  • Vegetative stage hang light  26 – 28 inches above the canopy adjust dimmer as needed, dimmer can be raised up to 75%
  • Flowering stage hang light 16 – 18 inches above the canopy, set dimmer to max output 100%

Since the spider farmer sf-4000 comes with a dimmer it gives you the option to set the light to 100% on and just hang it and adjust the height of the light as you need more or less lumens/lux about 20k for seedlings, 50k for veg, 70k for flowering. This is how much light the plant can usually absorb before it gets light burn or runs into other problems. If you don’t want to adjust the lights height a bunch of times throughout the grow you can just hang it and slowly increase the light with the dimmer knob as the plant grows this will work as well.

Spider Farmer SF-4000 Grow Light Specifications

For those of you interested in the overall design and performance of the light I decided to include the light specifications from the manufacturer. So basically when it comes to the specifications of a light there are only a few things I look at and they are the watts consumed, coverage area, diodes and type of lighting driver! Right now on the market you want to stick with the samsung diodes and meanwell lighting driver I have been using them for 2 years now without any issues on my spider farmer lights.

Dimensions: 25.3” x 21.1” x 2.3”
Weight: 11.5lb

Watts Consumed: ~450w
Light Intensity: Up to 1320 @ 18″ height

LED Brand: Samsung LM 301B

With the weight of the light being only 11.5 lbs I think it is average in weight because you need to keep in mind that the whole top of the light is the actual heat sink which helps reduce the total amount of heat on the plants.

Spider Farmer SF-4000 Worth Buying?

If you are looking to pick up a new light or make the jump from high pressure sodium to LEDs then I would recommend this grow light or any other spider farmer grow light. After testing the sf-1000 and sf-2000 I really like how the sf-4000 performs overall and the simple fact you can use this one light to completely dominate a 5 x 5 grow tent. After putting a scrog down and only 3 plants in a 5 x 5 grow tent we were able to completely fill the tent and flip to flower in a month and a half!

The next best thing is that this light produces very little heat and when used in a 5 x 5 it makes just enough heat to keep the plants inside happy and not overheat. When growing with any high pressure sodium lighting systems the main thing most people struggle with is how hot it gets inside the grow rooms then you need a lot more ventilation to control the room. This means we need to spend more money on cooling equipment and fans which can all be avoided by simply going with led grow lights.
